如何翻譯中文稱謂
稱謂代表了一個人的職位、職銜或學銜，體現了一個人的資歷和地位。稱謂的誤譯不僅是對有關人員的不尊重，而且也會產生種種不良的後果。稱謂的準確翻譯其關鍵在於譯員對有關人員的身份及其稱謂的表達是否有一個正確的理解，尤其是對稱謂語的認識。一種稱謂語很可能表示多種身份，例如，英語的頭銜語 president，譯成漢語時可視具體情況分別譯作共和國的總統、國家主席、大學的校長、學院的院長、學會或協會的會長或主席、公司的總裁或董事長等等。
一般說來，各類機構或組織的首長其漢語稱謂譯成英語時雖可套用通用詞 head，但從比較嚴格的意義上看，應使用特定的、規範的稱謂語。例如：
1. 董事長企業 President/Chairman of the Board of Directors
2. 董事長學校 President/Chairman of the Board of Trustees
3. 校長大學 President of Beijing University
4. 校長中小學 Principal /Headmaster of Donghai Middle School
5. 院長大學下屬 Dean of the Graduate School
6. 系主任大學學院下屬 Chair/Chairman of the English Department
7. 會長/主席學/協會 President of the Student Union, Shanghai University
8. 廠長企業 Director of the Machine Tools Manufacturing Plant
9. 院長醫院 President of Huadong Hospital
10. 主任中心 Director of the Business Center
11. 主任行政 Director of Foreign Affairs Office
首席長官的漢語稱謂常以“總……”表示，而表示首席長官的英語稱謂語則常帶有 chief general, head , managing 這類詞，因此當翻譯冠以“總”字的頭銜時，需遵循英語頭銜的表達習慣：

另外，公署專員叫作commissioner，其辦事機構叫作“專員公署”，英語為 prefectural commissioner's office。
漢語中表示副職的頭銜一般都冠以“副”字，英譯時需視詞語的固定搭配或表達習慣等情況，可選擇 vice, associate, assistant, deputy 等詞。相對而言，vice 使用面較廣，例如：
1. 副總統或大學副校長等vice president
2. 副主席或系副主任等vice chairman
3. 副 vice premier
4. 副部長 vice minister
5. 副省長 vice governor
6. 副市長 vice mayor
7. 副領事 vice consul
8. 副校長中小學vice principal
9. 行政職務的副職頭銜與學術頭銜的“副”職稱往往用不同的詞表達，最為常用的英語詞是 associate，例如：
