  原文

We have all heard the saying."You are what you eat." But how many of us are willing to admitthat the expression applies to us as well as to all those unidentified people out there?Currentresearch suggests that the majority of Americans have bad eating habits, and some of this isdetermined by our lifestyle, which demands that we eat quickly and inexpensively.

What are the commonest foods on the American menu? Hamburgers and French fries,sugar-laden drinks;pies andwhipped cream, malts and ice-cream. Apart from an occasional broiledhamburger, all the things on that list are bad for us.And there are certain prophets of doomwho predict that all those fatladen fast foods provide us with only one thing-a faster road tothe grave.

On the other hand, there are those who claim that the basic fast-food meal contains all thenourishment you need. After all, there are meat. milk, salad ***if you have the extras***, and bread. And if you have a cheeseburger instead of a hamburger, you are doing yourself an extra favorby adding additional protein. What these good news gossips are overlooking is the usuallypulpy bun; the excess of sugar in the maltose or Coke;and overdose of salt that is sprinkledon the hamburger to make palatable ***美味的***.

So you decide to stay away from the hamburger joint, and buy your food from thesupermarket. Are you any better off? Not if you buy frozen or canned food. The experts tell usthat canned and frozen vegetables contain sugar, as well as all sorts of perspectives that arenot doing anything to improve your health. According to these people. the only way to be sureyour food is good for you is to buy it and cook it fresh. And then. of course. you have to eat it-and that creates another problem. The speed of today's world has encouraged many of us to eatfar too fast. We do not chew our food enough, and we eat on the run or we jump and startrunning the minutc we finish eating.

  答案

  1.[lifestyle]

  [定位]根據題幹中的current research,bad eating habits和determined查詢到第1段最後一句。

  解析:題干將原文該句that後兩個並列分句合併成一個句子,原文by後的lifestyle即本題答案。

  2.[The prophets of doom.]

  [定位]根據題幹中的fal-laden fast foods查詢到第2段最後一句。

解析:probably thinks對應原文的predict, fatal是原文a faster road to the grave的同義表達,題幹問的是持某類觀點的人,因此答案為The prophets of doom。

  3.[protein]

4.[Buy it and cook it fresh.]

  [定位]根據題幹中的better off查詢到原文第4段的設問句和其後的內容。

  解析:原文就better off自問自答,先指出冷凍和罐裝食品對健康無益,然後指出保證食品對健康有益的做法是自己現買現做,即Buy it and cook it fresh。

  5.[eat far too fast]

  [定位]根據題幹中的we eat on the run查詢到末段最後兩句。

解析:原文通過we eat on the run和we jump and start running the minute we finish eating,對前一個句子做進一步解釋說明——當代社會的快節奏使得我們吃得太快,也就是說我們被迫使eat far too fast。
