A man once caught a weasel, which was always sneaking about the house, and was just going to drown it in a tub of water, when it begged hard for its life, and said to him, "Surely you haven't the heart to put me to death? Think how useful I have been in clearing your house of the mice and lizards which used to infest it, and show your gratitude by sparing my life." "You have not been altogether useless, I grant you," said the Man: "but who killed the fowls? Who stole the meat? No no! You do much more harm than good, and die you shall."

The emperor of the South Sea was named "Tiao", the emperor of the North Sea was named "Hu", and the central emperor "Hun Dun".

Tiao and Hu often had contacts with each other and were very intimate. They often met in the central area under Hun Dun's rule and received his warm hospitality.

One day, Tiao and Hu met again and talked about Hun Dun. They were very grateful to him and wished to repay him well.

After discussing for a long time they realized that everyone has seven orifices; the mouth, nostrils, ears, eyes, so that they can eat, smell, listen, and see the beautiful scenery of nature. Only Hun Dun did not have them and could not enjoy these pleasures.

Finally, they thought of a clever way: they decided to bore seven holes on Hun Dun's head. In this way he would be the same as others.

Then, regardless of whether Hun Dun would agree or not, Tiao and Hu began working on him. One took a big chisel and the other swung an iron hammer to bore one hole a day on Hun Dun's head. However, on the seventh day, Hun Dun bled from from the seven orifices to death.

As the legend goes, during ancient times, in the expansive open country of North China, there was a kind of birds called "rocs".

The roc was very huge, with its back like a big mountain, and its wings like a stretch of cloud which could cover the sky. When it spread its wings, it could break through a storm and soar at a height of , li ***/ kilometre*** in the sky towards the sea in the south.

A small bird called the quail bounced on the ground, free and happy. It looked up at the roc soaring in the sky and couldn't help laughing: "Hey, see how cocky you are! Look at me, one jump can take me over chi. How delightful! Every day I come and go amid these weeds and thickets and fly freely. Don't I fly quite well too? But, where can you fly to anyway?"
