  A: Do you think we could go easy on Joey for fighting in the cafeteria? At least he isn’t a woose.

  B: No, we can’t go soft on fighting in school. Besides, he didn’t have to fight that kid. The teacher had the kid cold for cheating. So Joey was already cleared of the charges.

  A: I know, but it seems cold to punish him, after somebody copies his work.

  B: We’re punishing him for fighting with after school detention. The other kid will be suspended for cheating.

  A: 你覺得我們能原諒Joey在餐廳裡打架的事嗎?至少他表現得很有勇氣。

  B: 不行,我們不能對在校園裡打架的行為手軟。而且,他根本就不應該打那個孩子。老師已經完全掌握了那孩子作弊的證據,已明白不關Joey的事。

  A: 我知道,不過畢竟是別人抄襲了Joey,這樣懲罰他太無情了。

  B: 我們是罰他打架,讓他放學後留校。另外一個孩子作弊,我們會讓他停課。

  have/get sb. cold: 置某人於牢牢掌握之中。

  suspend: 暫時停課;停學。

  B: Wow! That is totally lousy. That makes things pretty tough for you.

  A: I never imagined he could be so hard-boiled. He didn’t even look sorry!
