　　Steven is talking with Julia about the thing he met in the morning.

　　史蒂文正在和茱莉婭談論他早上遇到的事情。

　　Steven: Julia, I saw two men fighting beside our door this morning.

　　史蒂文：茱莉婭，我今天早上看到有兩個人在我們家門前打架。

　　Julia: I know them. They are the two brothers living next door.

　　茱莉婭：我認識他們，他們是住在隔壁的兩兄弟。

　　Steven: Brothers? Do you know why they quarreled?

　　史蒂文：兄弟?你知道他們為什麼吵架嗎?

　　Julia: It's said that the father's will caused the dissension among the two brothers.

　　茱莉婭：據說是他們父親的遺囑引起了兩兄弟的不和。

　　Steven: Is there anybody acting as mediator in the dispute?

　　史蒂文：有人為他們調解爭端嗎?

　　Julia: No, everyone keeps in mind that 'Don't intrude in a family dispute'.

　　茱莉婭：沒有，人人都牢記著：“不要插手別人的家庭糾紛”這句話。

　　Steven meets Mrs. Henderson in the doorway,and they get chatting with each other.

　　史蒂文在門口遇見漢德森太太，他們就聊起天來。

　　Steven: Hi, Mrs. Henderson.

　　史蒂文：你好啊，漢德森太太。

　　Mrs. Henderson: Hi, Steven. Do you have time and chat with me?

　　漢德森太太：你好，史蒂文。你有時間和我聊聊嗎?

　　Steven: Of course I have plenty of time. What's new?

　　史蒂文：當然，我有的是時間。有什麼新鮮事嗎?

　　Mrs. Henderson: The new couple next door divorced. Have you heared about it?

　　漢徳森太太：隔壁那對新婚夫婦離婚了，你聽說了嗎?

　　Steven: No. The Hills? Who filed for divorce first?

　　史蒂文：沒有，希爾夫婦嗎?誰提出的離婚呢?

　　Mrs. Henderson: I guess it is Mrs Hill. She sued for divorce on the grounds of her husband'smisconduct with his secretary.

　　漢徳森太太：我猜是希爾太太吧!她以希爾先生與祕書有染為由，提起離婚訴訟。

　　Steven: Oh, maybe not. It's just your guess. Do not give currency to idle gossip.

　　史蒂文：哦，或許不是吧。那只是你的猜想，不要傳播閒言吧。

　　Mrs. Henderson: OK. I close my mouth.

　　漢徳森太太：好吧，我不說了。

　　Steven is preparing a birthday party for Julia when Tom comes to visit him.

　　湯姆來找史蒂文時，他正在給朱莉亞準備生日聚會。

　　Tom: Hello, Steven, what are you doing now?

　　湯姆：你好，史蒂文，你在幹什麼呀?

　　Steven: I am preparing a birthday party for Julia.

　　史蒂文：我正在為茱莉亞準備一個 生日聚會。

　　Tom: Can I be of any help to you?

　　湯姆：我能幫你什麼忙嗎?

　　Steven: Of course, could you help to blow up some balloons?

　　史蒂文：當然，你能幫我吹一些氣球嗎?

　　Tom: I hate balloons.

　　湯姆：我最討厭氣球了。

　　Steven: Well, would you please clean the livingroom? You know I'm too busy.

　　史蒂文：那麼，你能幫我打掃一下客廳嗎?你知道我太忙了。

　　Tom: No problem.

　　湯姆：沒問題。
